    Introduction

    The Department of Forest and Wildlife, DNH & DD plays a pivotal role in the conservation, management and sustainable utilization of our natural resources and the diverse array of flora and fauna. The mandate of Department encompasses works of forest conservation, wildlife protection, afforestation and biodiversity conservation. The Department carries out plantation activities, soil and moisture conservation measures, protection measures in Forests as well as Revenue areas. The Department strives to increase the Forest and Tree cover outside the Forest areas by involving local communities in plantation activities and conducting awareness programmes through celebration of important days like World Forestry Day, World Environment Day, Van Mahotsav, Wildlife Week etc. The Department has also focusses on sustainable ecotourism in forest areas involving tourists in wild safaris, treks, nature parks, gardens, etc.
